Pyrography, or wood burning, is a fascinating, interesting hobby. It is mastered by those who love art. The letters, which first mentioned patterns burned by fire, date back to 700 BC. e. The incinerator was invented at the beginning of the 20th century. The first devices were made of glass containers, complemented by two rubber tubes. At the end of one of the tubes was attached a rubber ball for pumping air, at the end of the other there was a platinum tip connected to the handle.
In the middle of the 20th century, a new type electric burner appeared, which became the prototype of a modern apparatus. The original form of applied art has become available to children.
The design has since undergone considerable changes. Manufacturers install a power regulator. With it, you can smoothly adjust the temperature of the working needle. This allows you to apply a pattern to any material at hand. On sale you can find models with a large number of nozzles. Due to different-sized feathers, it is possible to form strokes of different sizes, to give the picture volume.
Despite the sufficient choice among the factory machines, many craftsmen want to make a wood burner with their own hands. This is mainly resorted to by experienced artists.
Often problems are detected by the built-in transformer; you have to solve the problem yourself.
Some masters want to supplement the existing simple burner with a special device with which you can adjust the degree of heating of the needle. The article provides practical guidance on assembling a mini-burner on wood from improvised means.
Circuit design
When assembling a homemade burner, you must have knowledge in the field of radio electronics. This will allow you to develop an electrical circuit. If there are no skills in this area, you can use the scheme below.
The scheme can be simple or quite complex, designed for the requirements of the developer. The task is to choose the most acceptable option, to put it into practice.
Preparatory work
Before you make a burner, you need to plan the process, collect the necessary materials, devices. A set of accessories depends on what type of device you plan to make. If you need a burner with temperature control, you will have to find a dimmer, dimmer, or a mechanism similar in functional direction. You also need to prepare:
- sewing needle;
- the needle is removable from the syringe;
- Power Supply;
- soldering device.
To work, you need to take the old charger from your mobile phone. For a homemade burner, the power supply from the iPhone is well suited. Its output voltage is 5.1 V and 2 A. HThe more powerful the charging or battery pack, the better. If there is no such device, you can use charging for a screwdriver or other similar compact tool that does not work or is not used due to uselessness. It is also necessary to find barbecue skewers, threads of high strength, flux, solder at the farm or buy in the store.
The needle is one of the main elements of a homemade wood burner. Her choice should be approached responsibly. It depends on this detail how refined the ornament will be, a miniature silhouette painted on a wooden surface. Recommendedgive preference to a thin and sharp needle. A good option is a medical needle. It will heat up to the maximum temperature, evenly warm the sewing needle, which will burn the pattern on the processed material.
Assembly process
First you need to take round pliers or pliers. With their help, the nose of a medical needle bites off. Then, strictly parallel, two needles are attached to a barbecue skewer, fixed with a strong thread. The end of the sewing needle gently bends until it slightly touches the tip of the medical needle.
Then you need to connect the wires from the charger to the needles. The polarity does not matter, the wires can be connected arbitrarily.
In order for the electric burner to serve for a long time and reliably, the connection points must be correctly processed. To do this, a small amount of flos is applied to them, then they are tinned.
The wires for the burner are soldered alternately, attached to wooden skewers, fixed with threads. Excessive protruding ends of the skewers are cut off. For greater reliability, the threads can be treated with superglue, protected with a heat shrink tube. After this stage, the device is ready, it can be used for its intended purpose.

The principle of operation of the device does not differ from the principle of operation of the factory apparatus. Despite the fact that charging has only 2 A and 5.1 V, at the moment of supply of electric current, the thin-walled hollow needle from the syringe intensely heats up, transfers the glow to the sewing needle. The burner is compact, in practice it shows excellent performance, it allows applying 10 mm thick strokes to a wooden surface.
