Opening the door, you find that condensation forms on the walls of the refrigerator? Do water collect under the drawers below? If you removed the water, but after a while it reappeared, you need to look for the cause of the problem. Normally, there should be no liquid under the fruit crates, but this does not mean that a serious breakdown has occurred. You need to inspect and check some components of the refrigerator.
Consider the reasons why condensate accumulates in the chamber.
Type of refrigeration equipment
Most users want to replace old refrigerators with No Frost technology. Drip type refrigerators have to be constantly defrosted because snow and ice interfere with normal operation.
Condensation on the back wall may indicate a drip type of defrost. In this case, the formation of moisture is considered the norm. To find the fault, determine what type of defrost is installed in your refrigerator.
Drip system
Such refrigerators are equipped with an evaporator for cooling - it is located behind the rear wall. When the motor-compressor starts, the cooling process begins. As a result, the evaporator and part of the wall where it is located are covered with snow or hoarfrost. Condensation in the refrigerator freezes. After the motor is turned off, the temperature in the chamber becomes higher, so moisture drops flow down the wall.
Water enters a special compartment, from where it is drained into a tray.
No Frost System
The type of defrost involves one evaporator in the freezer. The fan accelerates the cold air between the chambers. To get less cold into the refrigeration section, an air plug is installed. It closes after receiving a signal about the set of optimal temperature.
Causing breakage
A common reason is a violation of the rules of operation of the refrigerator. Probably every user at least once did this:
- He put warm food in the cell. After cooking, the dish did not have time to cool, and you urgently need to leave. You sent it to a shelf, after which condensation formed in the refrigerator.
- He placed liquid dishes without a lid in the chamber. Moisture evaporates - condensation is obtained.
- I installed the lowest possible temperature in the compartment.
- He kept the door open for a long time, or did not close it completely.
The breakdown could also be caused by more serious problems.
Causes of condensation in the refrigerator
If you have decided on a defrost system, then you can start troubleshooting.
For drip type refrigeration equipment
As already mentioned, condensation on the back of the refrigerator is normal. But if water accumulations are observed in other places, you need to check the drainage system for blockage.
- The drainage compartment or tube is clogged. Moisture has nowhere to drain from the wall, so it accumulates below. The causes of the blockage are small crumbs and debris that fall with drops of water. As a result, the evaporator does not have time to thaw and is overgrown with snow. A cotton swab or other thin object will help to remove the blockage. You can also use a syringe. Pour warm water into the drain compartment until it is flushed.
- Depressurization. Worn door rubber does not allow the chamber to be sealed tightly. Warm air enters the compartment, and the refrigerator, compensating for the temperature increase, works even harder. Then the seal needs to be urgently replaced. The door may not close properly due to improper installation. If the case is tilted forward, the door opens randomly.
- A malfunction of the temperature sensor, which notifies the system of the temperature in the chamber. Incorrect operation leads to a decrease in temperature in the chamber, the walls are overgrown with snow.
You can fix most problems yourself. But some need professional repair.
For refrigeration unit type No Frost
If condensation forms in the Atlant, Samsung, and other brands with the No Frost system, then there are problems in the defrost module. It consists of the following parts:
- timer and defrost sensor;
- heater;
- fuse.
You can determine the breakdown by the following signs:
- the motor is constantly running, does not turn off "on vacation";
- the refrigerator compartment does not cool the food, and the freezer overgrows with snow.
Since the temperature in the lower compartment is higher, the snow in the freezer melts a little and moisture flows down the walls. This results in condensation and puddles of water. Only replacement parts will help.

As a result of the formation of moisture, food spoils faster, a specific smell appears in the chamber. Snow and ice on the walls contribute to the corrosion of metal elements of the equipment, so do not delay the repair. If you cannot solve the problem yourself, contact a service center.
